No matter how often I clean, my office ends up looking like chaos.  I always end up with piles of paper, magazines, and mail.  Help!

I know how you feel!  I get interupted several times a day when I'm in the middle of doing something and asked to do something else or research something. By the end of the day I've pulled out so many binders and folders, have PTO sheets, invoices and who knows what all over my desk.  My main frustration is trying to keep organized through the day and not look like I don't know what I'm doing or where anything is.  Help!

One of the best pieces of advice I have ever been given around organizing my office space is to create a filing system by day of the month (so 31 files, labeled 1 - 31 for all the days of the month).  File papers you need to be working on or with by the date you need to take action.  For example, if you have a project due on Friday the 12th but you need to begin working on it Monday the 8th, then file the papers or folder you need under the 8th.  Or if you have a meeting on the 10th, file a folder with everything in it that you need for that meeting under the 10th.  Prioritize the next day's folder the day before.  When you get to that day, pull out only the top item and work on it until it's done before you pull out the next item.  Sounds crazy when you have alot of interruptions, but it really works because even if you get interrupted, you'll come back to that ONE paper or file on your desk versus all of them piled up and all over the place.  It takes discipline, but if you can make yourself do it, it really does work well.  Happy organizing!

I have too many piles. I like everything and "save for later" is a must. But that over stuffs my A to Z.

Okay, I have another A to Z, I'd better use one for the important stuff and the other for the "later" stuff.
