SMEAD DONATES SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO HELP TEACHERS AND STUDENTS GET ORGANIZED

HASTINGS, Minn. (Sept. 5, 2007) — As the 2007/08 school year gets underway, Smead Manufacturing Company announced that it will donate school supplies valued at more than $100,000 to support teachers and students in low-income neighborhoods. The donation, made through the Minneapolis chapter of the Kids in Need Foundation, will help ensure that recipient schools have what they need to enhance learning in the classroom.

Smead, a woman-owned business with a 100-year history, will donate more than 8,000 back to school products including high-end organizers, expanding files and padfolios in a variety of bright colors and fashion patterns to help students organize with style.

“There are many teachers in our community who don’t have the tools and equipment that they need for their classrooms,” said Sharon Avent, President and CEO of Smead Manufacturing. “We hope that our contribution of school supplies to the Minneapolis Resource Center of the Kids in Need Foundation will help to make the classroom experience just a little easier for students and teachers this year.”

The Kids In Need Foundation's mission is to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies nationally to students most in need.

“Smead has been a generous supporter of the Kids In Need Foundation for many years,” said Dave Smith, executive director of the Kids In Need Foundation. “Teachers representing about 30,000 students will have access to the products they’re donating to the Minneapolis Center. We greatly appreciate it.”
